During the Heian era in Imperial Japan, aristocrats cruised their boats under the autumn moon and admired its reflection in the water as Tsuki-yomi (Japanese moon god) entranced them in all his glory. They celebrated her radiance by reading and writing tanka poetry, sipping sake, and eating white rice dumplings and chestnuts. Today, this celebration is called the Tsukimi festival – an annual moon and harvest festival – where the magic and mystery of the moon is celebrated with serene gratitude and whispered conversations. Poetry, snacks, and drinks are enjoyed on a blanket with loved ones under the bright, beautiful full moon. Use my Imperial Japan Full Moon Set to invoke the magic of the Tsukimi Festival.
