Reading of the 1560 Geneva Bible - Day 94 of 366 (1 Kings 3-5) Season 2 - "Wisdom, Prosperity, and Building for God's Glory: The Reign of King Solomon"
In tonight's reading, we delve into the intriguing tale of King Solomon's wisdom and the building of the magnificent Temple in Jerusalem.
Chapter 3 - Solomon's Wisdom:
After Solomon becomes king of Israel, God appears to him in a dream and offers to grant him anything he desires. Instead of asking for wealth or power, Solomon humbly requests wisdom to govern God's people rightly. Impressed by his humble and selfless request, God grants Solomon not only wisdom but also wealth and honor. One particular test of Solomon's wisdom involves two women claiming to be the mother of the same baby. Solomon, using his God-given wisdom, suggests cutting the infant in half to satisfy both women. The real mother reveals herself by being willing to give up the baby to save its life, and Solomon's wisdom is proven.
Chapter 4 - Solomon's Prosperity and Wisdom:
This chapter highlights Solomon's immense wealth, wisdom, and administrative skills. The narrator describes the organization of Solomon's government, his extensive court, and the widespread fame of his wisdom. The chapter also lists the various officials and their duties in Solomon's kingdom.
Chapter 5 - Solomon Prepares to Build the Temple:
Solomon enters into a treaty with King Hiram of Tyre to provide materials and skilled workers for the construction of the Temple in Jerusalem. The chapter details the massive amount of resources gathered, including cedar and cypress timber from Lebanon, skilled craftsmen, and gold and silver offerings for the Temple. Solomon's dedication to building God's house showcases his commitment to following God's will and honoring Him with a magnificent structure.
