While in Thailand a friend from Germany sent me an email and asked if there was any good dirt biking to be had. I was in need of a new visa and it seemed practical to combine the two. So we rented dirt bikes and headed out into Thailand's countryside to find dirt and ultimately cross into Myanmar if possible. This is ultimately a border run story.

Thailand Run for the Myanmar Border Part 1 Video Details
Dirt bikes in Thailand
In this adventure, Ben & I rent dirt bikes. Our objective was to head north to the remote border area and cross into Myanmar before my visa expired. We were planning on staying in the dirt as much as possible and off the main roads.
The problem with these remote roads is that they are remote and confusing. Even the locals seemed confused.
After much confusion we asked some informed locals for directions from little kids? I thought we should ask again.
A farmer pointed out a short cut. It looked like a jungle up there. Maybe this short cut wasn’t such meant for motorcycles? I discovered a super sized whole that ended my desire to use this short cut. I would be happy just to get the motorbike back.
Getting the motorbike out of the whole proved to be too much even for Ben s he left to get help.
The farmer and his friends volunteered to come and pull the bike out. They seemed quite skilled at these maneuvers. How often to they send suckers down this trail I wondered.
I was done with short cuts. We decided to backtrack up the trail, head to the main road and forget all about shortcuts.
Once back on the main road we tore it up trying to reach a bungalow marked on our map.
That evening Ben serviced his bike while I serviced my battered body. I was done with shortcuts. We were only 50 km west of Chang Mai by the end of the day.
We needed to avoid shortcuts from now on.
