Tifani Roberts
Journalist at Univision
Tifani Roberts started her journalism career in Nicaragua, her home. It was 1985 and the country was embroiled in a decades-long revolution, then war. Roberts worked part time with the British news agency Visnews. Her work there caught the eye of NBC Network news, where she was hired initially as an office manager. She soon found herself traveling throughout the war zone and Cuba as a field producer covering a variety of dangerous and heartbreaking assignments.
The war ended. Roberts, now 24 with her 3 year-old daughter, moved to Philadelphia to get her degree at Temple University. Being a single mom did not stop her from graduating magna cum laude. She was also elected as commencement speaker for her graduating class of 1991. Roberts was also awarded the Jessica Savitch Scholarship and was inducted as a member of the Golden Key Honor Society.
After Temple, Roberts moved to Miami, where CBS hired her as its Broward County Bureau chief for the network-owned local TV station. Five years in Miami flew by before she found herself moving back to Nicaragua and its newfound peace in 1996. Still a journalist, Roberts was working this time in front of the camera, covering news events for English- and Spanish-language news networks from around the world, including CNN International and Univision.
In 2006, Roberts joined the award-winning Univision network news magazine show, AQUI Y AHORA (Here and Now). She has been telling stories and covering breaking news for Univision nationally as well as traveling to almost every country in the western hemisphere ever since.
She has earned three national Emmy awards, an Investigative Reporters and Editors award and a Peabody award.
