Norfolk Southern's various locomotive rebuilding programs have given train spotters some of the most visually unique and interesting diesel locomotives in North America.. Two of its "Crescent Cab" recipients are the somewhat successful EMD SD60E and the moderately failed GE Dash 8.5.. Both are products of resurrected 1980s & 1990s engine technology and both rebuilding programs were scrapped in favor of DC-to-AC rebuilding programs..
