My take on Naag-Devta, Naag-Mani and anything in-between
- Yes, I do believe in them.
This video about Naag-Mani had a fair number of people question about my choice of topic. The reason they gave me for this video to possibly fail was "We are living in a modern time"!
However, I stuck to my decision, worked on the story and released it.
I too have reasons that I now want to share. What gave me confidence to go forward with this story was:
1. I once watched an interview of the most successful producer, Ekta Kapoor, the one who rules the world of television in India, said "When compared the viewership of two shows that were aired at the same time on television, one was the IPL Finale and the other being one of the episodes of her Naagin series; the viewership of Naagin was surprisingly more." That day and today, it's the 6th successful season of her Naagin series. So, the mood of the masses is clearly understood.
2. From the mainstream Bhartiya culture to a regional culture like ours in Darjeeling, there's a special place, belief and devotion towards Naag-Devta/Naag-Mani tales.
3. What makes my video even more significant is the fact that someone actually found a Naag-Mani and experienced its magical effects.
4. The presence of natural spring water (उमरेको पानी) in Darjeeling is today's reality; Naag-Devta residing in & around the emerging spot of spring water is a deep-rooted belief since ages. So, wherever Naag-Devta resides, the curiosity of Naag-Mani follows.
5. Our cultural beliefs & practices are also connected to the type of place we live in. Darjeeling being a hilly region is blessed by the Nature God and thereby, Gorkha community here experiences nature closely. The reason why we are nature worshippers is because we got it from our place. Naag-Mani is our story. If we are not going to believe in it and share it with the rest of the world, then WHO will?
6. It is our responsibility to pass down such tales and beliefs to our younger ones and teach them to preserve our cultural identity and stay in sync with Indian folklore.
And my video is a way to convey the message that "I take pride in my culture"↙️

II Gorkhas are nature worshippers II
📌 You may never find a Naag-Mani.
📌 There's still 0.001% to come across a Naag-Devta.
📌 But finding a spring water origin is 100% possible. It is a reality of today. Let's not make it a story from the past or a work of fiction.
📌 Our elders have often taught us to not dirty sacred places like spring water origin due to the belief that Naag-Devta resides in & around.
📌 The benefit of believing in such tales will subconsciously make you conscious towards nature preservation and stop you from nature abuse.
