New Street rail passengers in tears as train stuck in tunnel in darkness after 'explosion'
Passengers were stuck on a train in a tunnel in complete darkness during the baking heatwave for more than an hour just outside Birmingham New Street station. One said some people were "panicking and in tears" after hearing two explosions.
The dramatic incident happened on a West Midlands Railway train travelling from Lichfield to New Street at about 1pm today. Passengers described seeing overhead cables fall to the side of the train and the train shaking.
