The trial of Saudi rights activist Loujain al Hathloul will begin on Wednesday, according to her family. In a Twitter post, her brother says the case will be heard in, a court in Riyadh that specialises in terrorism cases. Hathloul is one of nearly a dozen prominent Saudi Arabian activists detained since last May, for championing women's rights in the desert kingdom.
Loujain al Hathloul has openly defied the Saudi leadership by campaigning for women's rights since 2014.
That's when she was first arrested and locked up for 73 days,, for violating a ban on women driving,, and calling for an end to guardianship laws.
Hathloul and the other activists have now been charged with harming Saudi interests. The charges are based on confessions that international rights groups say were obtained through torture, including electric shocks, beatings, and sexual assault.
