Founded in 1848, Omega is one of the most recognizable names on the luxury watch market. While their catalog is incredibly varied, it is divided into just four main categories: the Seamaster, Speedmaster, De Ville, and Constellation. From there, the Seamaster is categorized into numerous sub-collections, which we will discuss in further detail in this video.
The Seamaster collection made its debut in 1948, just in time to celebrate Omega’s 100th anniversary. It is still in production today, making the Seamaster the brand’s longest-produced model. Furthermore, the Seamaster is Omega’s most diverse collection, boasting eight different sub-models. Each variation follows a basic design model, offering some level of water resistance.

DIVER 300M
Our guide starts with one of the most recognizable editions of the Seamaster on the market today, the Seamaster Diver 300M. From classy wave dial references worn by James Bond to more complicated editions featuring chronographs and GMT functions, the Diver 300M is incredibly varied. It also boasts numerous case sizes, bracelet options, and metal finishes.
It is considered a professional diver’s watch, boasting water resistance up to 300 meters, a Helium Escape Valve, and a 60-minute diver’s bezel.
PLANET OCEAN
Doubling the waterproofness of the Seamaster Diver 300M is the Planet Ocean, with water resistance up to 600M. This sub-model is also available in a bevy of design set options, including numerous case sizes, metal finishes, bracelet types, and bezel and dial colors. Movement functions vary from traditional, three-hand references to those with dual-time capabilities and chronograph functions.
PLOPROF
If 600 meters of waterproofness isn’t enough for your adventurous lifestyle, the Proprof doubles the depth rating of the Planet Ocean up to 1,200 meters. Unlike any other dive watch in the Omega portfolio, the collection features a chunky asymmetrical case with an innovative bezel locking device.
While other dive watches showcased in this guide include Helium Escape Valves, the Ploprof was initially designed to keep those gasses out of the case entirely. However, modern variations of the collection include the Helium Escape Valve in their designs.
SEAMASTER 300
While the Seamaster Diver 300M is definitively a modern dive watch, the Seamaster 300 is more vintage-inspired by design. It takes many design cues from Seamaster watches produced decades ago, often featuring such design elements as “Tropical” dials topped with lume in a creamy hue designed to mimic the patina found on authentic vintage watches.
The collection also offers every modern amenity available to the Omega catalog, including Master Chronometer movements, sapphire crystals, and water resistance up to 300 meters.
AQUA TERRA
The Aqua Terra is the dressed-up version of the Seamaster that earns its name “Aqua Terra” after its versatility on and at sea. While it still offers a notable level of water resistance, the Aqua Terra can only travel as far as 150 meters below the ocean. The series also does not have a rotating bezel, allowing it to take on a design that is more on par with an elegant dress watch than a diver’s watch.
Lastly, the Aqua Terra is available in various metal finishes, case sizes, and dial colors. Many variants also feature the iconic teak-concept dial.
RAILMASTER
The Railmaster is another vintage-inspired Seamaster that combines design elements both old and new. It was developed as an anti-magnetic watch, offering resistance to magnetic fields of up to 15,000 gauss. Like the Seamaster 300, the Railmaster also boasts an intriguing “Tropical” dial topped lume in a faux patina. It also features many modern luxuries, such as a sapphire crystal, a Master Chronometer movement, and improved luminous material.
The Seamaster series also boasts a handful of other editions that don’t quite have a place in the rest of the Omega catalog, including the unique Bullhead chronograph and various other limited and special edition watches. While these sub-models don’t necessarily have a place in the Seamaster collection, they still bear the model’s name on their dial.
