Russia has carried out its largest air attack on Ukraine in months on Sunday, launching 120 missiles and 90 drones, killing several people and causing severe damage to the power system, Ukrainian authorities said.
The Russian Defense Ministry said the attack targeted Ukraine’s military industry and supporting power infrastructure.
It also said Russian forces repelled Ukrainian attacks in multiple directions and launched counter-attacks.
The state grid operator Ukrenergo announced nationwide emergency power restrictions for Monday.
Ukraine’s energy operator DTEK on Sunday announced emergency power cuts in the Kyiv region and also in the east.
Residents of Odesa queued for water at public water supply points and flocked to "invincibility points" which give people the opportunity to warm up, get hot food and drinks and charge their mobile devices.
German Chancellor Scholz said his conversation with Russian President Putin on Friday had given no indication of a shift in the Russian president's thinking on the conflict with Ukraine.
It was the first time that the two leaders talked in almost two years.
