In the final years of the Cold War, the Soviet Union appeared secure in its position and sufficiently resilient to survive for decades to come. However, this did not dissuade President Ronald Reagan from advancing a foreign policy based on a foundational faith in democracy and a desire to end Soviet Communism and the risk of nuclear war. In his new book, the University of Texas at Austin’s Will Inboden delves into recently declassified documents and interviews with senior Reagan White House officials for a window into how the Reagan administration took on the Soviet Union and managed crises as they emerged worldwide.
Join AEI’s Kori Schake and Hal Brands for a conversation with Dr. Inboden on his book, The Peacemaker: Ronald Reagan, the Cold War, and the World on the Brink (Dutton, 2022).
