Grade II listed wrought iron lattice girder bridge.
Also known as Hunningham Railway Bridge.
At the time of construction it was the largest bridge of its type in the world. The original span of 150ft was later reduced to three 50ft spans by the addition of the support structure.
Sustrans has plans to convert the route into a long distance cycleway, part of which is currently known as the Offchurch Greenway.
Filmed on 27th November 2020.
The railway was opened from Daventry to Marton Junction on 1 August 1895. The line was closed to passengers on 15 September 1958 and the line from Southam to Weedon was completely closed on the 10 May 1964.
Despite the closure of the Rugby line, from Marton Junction to Leamington, and of the Weedon branch, from Southam & Long Itchington to Daventry, the junction lasted in service for exactly 100 years, closing on 1st August 1995 (25 years before my visit).
