At the first leg of the 2011 World Match Racing Tour, Australian Torvar Mirsky was sitting atop the leaderboard after the Qualifying Rounds granted him the first pick of an opponent for the Quarter Finals.
The young Aussie skipper selected early leader Alvaro Marinho of Portugal who the Australian dismissed with a dominant 3-0 result.
The Quarter Finals were not so friendly for fellow Australian Peter Gilmour who was selected to compete against the other leading sailor of the regatta, local hero Damien Iehl of France. Gilmour struggling against the local knowledge of Iehl and went down gallantly 3-1.
In the other Quarter Finals Bertrand Pace of France defeated fellow French skipper Pierre-Antoine Morvan and new-comer Francesco Bruni of Italy was blanked by one of the favourites Denmark's Jesper Radich 3-0.
These results setup two highly anticipated semi final match ups - Australian Torvar Mirsky versus Frechman Bertrand Pace and Damien Iehl also from France taking on Jesper Radich of Denmark.
