"Gimme Some Lovin" from the album Gimme Some Lovin', (1966).
The Spencer Davis Group was a relatively short-lived British group of the mid-60s. They were composed principally of namesake Spencer Davis and brothers Steve and Muff Winwood. Steve, you've probably heard of, Muff not as much, though he has been a successful music producer and executive. They concentrated on beat music and later, psychedelia. Their best known songs are I'm a Man, Keep on Running (which went to #1 in the U.K.), and this little number ... Gimme Some Lovin' was a #2 hit for the group in the U.K. (it went to #7 in the U.S.), a major early accomplishment for lead singer Steve Winwood, who was only 18 at the time. The song is also the Spencer Davis Group's only entry on the WNEW Firecracker 500 lists, coming in at #185 on the 1991 list and climbing to #121 in 1996. The opening six-note bass riff that continues throughout most of the song is one of the most recognized in rock. The songs riffs were borrowed from an earlier song by Homer Banks, Ain't That a Lot of Love. It has been covered by many other artists, including The Supremes, The Four Tops, The Grateful Dead, and Traffic (again with Winwood as lead singer).
