I’m a Finnish folk musician, currently based in Oslo. My main instruments are fiddle and jouhikko (Finnish bowed lyre), I also play for ex nyckelharpa and mandolin.

Bacchanalia

Years ago I was honored to co-write some music for the West End musical Lord of the Rings as a member of Värttinä. I was using also jouhikko when we did early workshops in London 2005.
I was suprised when it came out that they really wanted jouhikko also to the live orchestra. So there they were, jouhikkos (made by Rauno Nieminen) in the Princess of Wales Theatre, Toronto (2006) and in the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London (2007-2008).
This tune Bacchanalia was one of many I wrote during the process (2002-2005) but never ended up to the production. The jouhikko is made by Rauno Nieminen, tuning E4-A3-D4, horse hair strings.
