There are very expensive meters and strips that are not super accurate either. Both type 1 diabetics and patients with type 2 diabetes need to check their blood sugars frequently. Getting different glucose readings when you check blood sugar can be frustrating but also it is inevitable. It is an inherent variability( unavoidable error) in every meter. Some meters are better than others. Dr. Ahmet Ergin discusses this in detail in this video. Sometimes expired or spoiled strips and inaccurate techniques also may give erroneous readings. Who is Dr. Ergin? Dr. Ahmet Ergin is an endocrinologist with a particular interest and passion for diabetes care. Dr. Ergin earned his medical degree with honors at Marmara University School of Medicine in Istanbul, Turkey. Then, he completed his internal medicine residency and endocrinology fellowship at Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio.
