The annual 'Diesel Gala' at the Swanage Railway has become one of the most renowned Diesel events in the UK over the years - and with the variety of locomotives in action this year, it's not hard to see why. For this years rendition, 6 locomotives would make a visit to the Isle of Purbeck, representing a variety of Diesel traction, running alongside the home-fleet pair of Class 33's; D6515 and 33111.
Similar to previous years, the gala held strong links with GB Railfreight, with two locomotives; 59003 and 73119, from their stables in service throughout the event. In addition, the pair was shouldered by 50007 "Hercules", from the Class 50 Alliance, sporting its new GBRf colours.
Class 44 - D4 "Great Gable" had originally been scheduled to attend the event. However, despite tireless hard work from the owning group and volunteers to prepare the locomotive, it failed a matter of days before the event, with no replacement available at such short notice.
