When you are adding new plants to your garden, something you gotta think about is how long will these plants look good in your garden. Annuals are good for a season, some perennials like coneflower may look good for 4-5 years, and then there are heirloom perennials that will keep blooming after you've kicked the bucket. Phlox is one of those plants.
Often you'll see instructions to grow Phlox paniculata in full sun setting, but from my experience they excel in dappled shade areas, like you can see in the video. And by planting them in the partial shade, you can also help stave off that dreaded mildew because the roots will be easier to keep moist, rather than persistently dry which causes the mildew.
