Jamie Porter took a five-wicket haul as Essex dominated the first day against Worcestershire in the Vitality County Championship at The Cloud County Ground.
Porter, who recently reached 500 first-class wickets, returned figures of 5/52, reducing Worcestershire to 10-4 early on.
Worcestershire Captain Brett D’Oliveira and Tom Taylor resisted with half-centuries, but Worcestershire were bowled out for 266. Essex ended the day at 50-1, with Robin Das unbeaten on 21 after Dean Elgar fell for 29.
Porter's early strikes and strong support from Sam Cook set the tone for a commanding Essex performance.
