Spinning a Whipping Top takes a little practice but it’s a fun toy to master.
If you are right-handed point the base of the top to the left. If you are left-handed point the base of the top to the right.
Then wind the cord away from you fairly tightly so that the first coil goes over the knot in the end. This locks the cord into the groove.
Next place the top on the ground with a finger or thumb in the centre.
Lastly, pull the stick quickly but smoothly sideways, not back towards your body.
If you find your top slipping rough up the metal cap with a bit of sandpaper.
