These are the current service rifles of the Nordic countries,
starting off with Sweden, their current service rifle is the AK-5 (Automatkarbin-5) adopted in 1986 it is basically a licence-built version of the Belgian FN FNC assault rifle, one of the finest ARs built by FN, long-stroke gas piston operated, and already chambered in the, 5.56×45mm NATO, simplifying Sweden's integration as NATO's newest member.
Next is **Norway**, they have relied on the battle-tested German **HK-416** since 2007. Based on the AR-15 platform, it swaps the original direct gas impingement for a short-stroke gas piston system, providing better reliability in the harsh climate of Scandinavia
Denmark, on the other hand, has decided to stick to the direct gas impingement system by adopting the Canadian C7 and C8 rifles, which are basically the Colt Canada-manufactured versions of the American M16 and M4s, again AR-15s.
Finland, the second newest NATO member, historically used copies of Soviet and Russian guns. Their current service rifle, the RK62 (an AK-pattern rifle made by VALMET), is praised for its high built quality. However, they plan to replace it as it's chambered in the Soviet 7.62×39mm. which is not a NATO caliber. Finland is now developing a 5.56×45mm NATO rifle with Sweden for better NATO integration.
