The battle for control over the House and Senate is a major focus of the November 8th midterm elections.
Democrats currently have a slim control over the U.S. Congress, and Republicans are hoping to make major gains to win back power.
The outcome of this election will determine not only the future of congressional control, but the outlook for the remainder of President Joe Biden's agenda.
Associated Press Chief Congressional Reporter Lisa Mascaro says the election is up for grabs and there are many unknowns for both parties as voters head to the polls.
"But what we do know is that there's a very high likelihood that Congress will again be very split, either very narrowly held by one party or split between one party and the other party," she said.
Mascaro puts an emphasis on the division in today's political landscape, with Republican candidates backed by former President Donald Trump facing-off against more established Democratic nominees.
"The difference is important, but also altogether what's perhaps more important in this day of very polarized politics is how the parties, the Democrats and the Republicans, are able to work together," Mascaro said.
