In this tutorial I show you the slice modifier in 3ds max 2018, and some of the uses it has.
I use this tool quite alot...
and as with any frequently used tool, It's a good idea to add the slice modifier to your Modify panel, modifier sets. This allows you to quickly access your saved modifiers.
So.. the slice modifier.
It can be used on a whole object or in sub object mode. I like to use it on faces and edges.
It can be rotated and moved to do slices at different heights and angles. It can be scaled, but scaling is on a visual thing.
You can refine mesh (make a solid slice)
Split mesh (make 2 parts with each slice)
Remove top (It deletes geometry above slice plane)
Remove bottom (It deletes geometry below slice plane).
You can use this in conjunction with cap holes to cap off your models making them solid geometry.
