My dissertation supervisor is ignoring me! What should I do?
I get asked this question so often! You have a dissertation to write, but your thesis advisor has gone AWOL. What should you do?
In this video, I'll share some useful tips to help you get the support they need with your dissertation.
The first tip is to send a polite chaser email to your dissertation supervisor. The email should be short, concise, and professional. In the video, I share an outline template that you can use if you're not quite sure what to write!
The second tip is to switch mediums, particularly if the supervisor does not reply to your chaser email. Most academics have a phone number they can be reached on, and you can use this to call your supervisor and follow up on your email. If they don’t answer, you can leave a voicemail, but if you still can't get through, call the general administrator's office of the faculty, school, or department to talk to one of the administrators.
By breaking the silence with your supervisor, you can get the feedback and guidance you need to move forward.
Throughout the video, I emphasise the importance of remaining polite, professional, and respectful when communicating with your supervisor, manners always win!
