Indian Army is considering to shorten the duration of short services to three years, in a bid to attract civilians for recruitments. At present, the minimum duration an officer can serve in the Indian Army is 10 years. For this experimental Tour of Duty model, 100 officers and 1000 jawans will be first recruited. This proposal is being considered as the Indian Army is in urgent need of cadre restructuring and have huge salary and pension bills.
