The Dugat family has been making wines since 1920s. Dugat Py was created through the marriage of Bernard Dugat and Jocelyne Py in 1979. It is now run by Bernard and his son Loic (pronounced lieu week).
Les Evocelles is a village level Lieux-dit (region recognized for specialized topographic or historical specifics). The total area of Les Evocelles is about 25 acres, of which Dugat Py owns around 2 acres. The soil is clay-limestone. The elevation of Les Evocelles is around 1050-1247 feet. It is located at the very north east portion of Gevrey Chambertin and borders the 1er Cru regions of Champeaux and Les Goulots.
The vines used to make this wine are 65+ years old. The vines have been treated with only organic preparations since 2003. The annual production of this wine is between 1500-2400 bottles. The wines are aged in 100% new oak for 16-18 months.
On the label, you will see the Aumonerie - a small abbey from the 9th century that belonged to the St. Benigne Abbey in Dijon. Only the cellars of the abbey, which were built in the 11th and 12th century, remain and this is where Dugat Py ages their wine. The building was named after Abbot Aumonier Hubard.
Sorry about the annoying lights on my glasses...it was so sunny on Vancouver on the day I filmed and we love when we get sun here (it rains a lot)
