It's believed that Northern Snakeheads, which are native to Central Asia, were introduced to the United States after being imported, and later released, by hobbyist aquarists. Like many invasive species, the presence of these hardy, highly predatory animals has wreaked havoc on native aquatic ecosystems. We display Snakeheads in an effort to raise awareness of the threat these (admittedly very cool-looking) fish pose to native species.
