An older Atlas Copco XRHS350 compressor (750CFM at 300PSI) and it is powered by a Deutz (F12L413L) 19 litre air cooled V12 engine.
Apparently it was last used on a coal mine site in NSW (Australia) before it was deemed too smokey to be used on site anymore.
It ended up in the hands of a driller in Victoria who purchased it for the air end, as spares for his working compressor. He never did anything with it and told me it hadn’t been run for +15 years.
I took a gamble on it and purchased the unit at scrap value price with minimal photos and had it freighted to South Australia.
The units appearance was rougher than I expected but the engine and air end looked okay. The engine could be turned over using a bar and 36” Stilsons.
The air tanks were inspected and certified, new safety valve added, all oils and filters were changed as were some hoses. All pilot lights replaced and non functioning switches replaced.
The batteries I had at hand weren’t good enough to turn the engine over so new ones were purchased.
A 24v fuel lift pump was added to prime the fuel filters and lines. Injector hoses were bled and the engine started without too much protest.
It makes air! 😉🙂
Only one bank is smokey and this is the side that receives the crankcase fumes. The engine oil cooler is externally clogged so it’s not working as a cooler. The valley cover isn’t fitted so the forced air cooling isn’t working.
I’m hopeful that if these things are addressed and a crankcase catch can is added, that the smoke will reduce.
Time will tell.
Have a look at my other compressor [ Ссылка ]
