One of the methods to tighten joints using Bolts or Studs involves tensioning them using Hydraulic Bolt tensioners
1) The tool rests on a 'Bridge' and surrounds the fastener. It transfers the reaction forces using this bridge.
2) The tensioner uses the threaded portion of the fastener to 'pull' and lenghten the bolt using a loadcell and puller.
3) The space created between the nut and the surface can now be exploited.
4) In nut rotator and tommy bar can now be used to tighten the nut and close this gap to the calculated preload forces.
