For the first time in a century, paddlers can traverse the Bow River downstream from the Calgary Zoo without fear of being caught in a "drowning machine." After years of planning and a lengthy construction phase, the $17 million Harvie Passage is complete. The result is a safer river, as well as an attraction expected to be a magnet for whitewater enthusiasts. That doesn't mean, however, that officials aren't a little worried headed into the long weekend.
