The Victorian Roses Ladies Riding Society have a very unique routine, one that we have been performing in public for several years. Our routine consists of not only ridden horses, but also horses driven in carriages. From the very beginning we have always had both ridden and driven horses in our routine, making us stand apart from other equestrian groups. We show the diverse ways horses can perform. All of the ridden horses change gaits from walking to cantering, while the driven horse move from a walk, to a road gait, to an extended trot, showing that even driven horses can move at a fast pace, as well as perform the exact intricate and precision movements as the ridden horses. We take great pride in this.
The routine starts out with the ridden horses entering on one side while the driven horses mirror their movements on the opposite side. They go from a walk to a trot. As they both reach the far side of the arena, the ridden horses move to the outside as the driven horses start to circle to the center, and their pace becomes faster. The ridden horses proceed all around the outside and then come to the inside and circle as the driven horses seamlessly move to the outside and circle around the ridden horses. Then, synchronized, the driven horses, stop, turn 90 degrees, and march in a straight line across the arena. As they reach the other side, they turn 90 degrees to their right. Right behind them, like another wave, the ridden horses repeat the same exact movement that the driven horses have just performed. As they reach the other side, they turn 90 degrees to their left. The driven horses circle and trot fast across the arena at an extended trot, while the ridden horses gallop by in the opposite direction, then circle back and join behind the driven horses. For the finale, as the music comes to an exciting climax, the single line of horses come across the arena, stop, and one by one, turn 90 degrees to their right and acknowledge the audience.
