Irima ria ngai
Irima ria Ngai is a small depression that is located within Thogoto forest. Locals speculate about its origin and many theories are spiritual based. The scientific theory dictates that around 500 years ago a meteorite fell within Thogoto forest creating a big depression. With time there was erosion hence the depression grew smaller. When the locals discovered the depression and considering that they had limited scientific knowledge they related it with spiritual phenomena hence it gained its name Irima Ria Ngai meaning ‘Hole of god’
Kihoko area
Kihoko is a small spring located within Thogoto forest along Dagoretti Karen road. It’s famous among the locals for its history in causing tribal rivalry. A few decades ago, there was a war between the Kikuyu and the Maasai on ownership of the Kihoko spring. The Kikuyu elders and the Maasai elders came into a consensus and decided to offer animal sacrifice in order to suppress the spring. To everyone’s wish the kihoko spring was suppressed and the war ended. The once mighty Kihoko spring lost its glory and turned into a neglected local spring.
Gitwe
Gitwe area is the indigenous part of Thogoto Forest. It is located in the boundary between Kiambu County, Nairobi County and Kajiando County. Gitwe is traditionally known as the source of Mbagathi River which joins Ololua River to form the Embakasi River which further downstream becomes Arthi River as it enters savanna Plantae on its way to the Indian Ocean.
