Shraavana is the fifth month of the Hindu calendar. In India's national civil calendar, Shravana is the fifth month of the Hindu year, beginning in late July from the first day of the full moon and ending in the third week of August, the day of the next full moon. This is also the 2nd month of the rainy season. In the Hindu calendar, the Shravan month is devoted to Lord Shiva. Devotees follow different types of fasts during the Shravan in order to please the Lord.
The Shravan month is also called the Sawan month in the North Indian states. All Mondays, which fall during the Shravan month, are known as Shravan Somwar and the devotees follow the Sawan Somvar Vrat Vidhi. Lots of enthusiasts practice the sixteen Mondays, or the Solah Somwar fasting, from the first Monday of the Shravan month.
