People frequently ask about the Sinclair Method. The Sinclair Method is a treatment for alcohol use that involves pharmacological intervention. What it involves is something called pharmacological extinction where an opiate agonist, such as Naltrexone, is given to patients who are abusing alcohol. And patients are told really to continue their normal drinking. And the idea of the Sinclair Method is that over time with this opiate agonist in the brain, the opiate agonist will reduce the craving.
And so what you'll see is the drinking starts here, and over time as the opiate is given, the use of alcohol will go down steadily until people stop. The Sinclair Method has been shown to be quite effective for many people but not for everyone. So if that has to be done, people should be consulting a physician, an addiction specialist. Often people will go to a general practitioner, but for the Sinclair Method to be employed it's really advisable to consult an addiction specialist.
