The Pacific Chorus Frog (Pseudacris regilla, a.k.a. Pacific Tree Frog) is native to western North America, west of the Rocky Mountains. These were recorded in Corvallis, Oregon, in a field that has flooded pools in the winter and spring, but they dry up in summer. They are the loudest, most numerous frog in our area. Only the males croak and they do it to attract females. The frogs are tiny, up to 2 inches long (5 cm) but commonly about 1.5 inches (3.8 cm). The little red-orange things swimming around are water mites, either genus Eylais or the genus Hydrachna.
