This is a compilation video of a few scythe matches took place at a Sword Arts meeting in November 2016. There was many more matches (most were double matches) and much more video of the evening, however a lot was recorded poorly. Here are some with some good displays. The first half of the vid shows matches of the initial scythe fighter doing bouts against most of those present. Turnabout is fair play. So the second half shows the initial fighter going against those individuals now using the scythe.
Disclaimer: With the exception of the initial scythe user, everyone else in this video is using the scythe for their first time. The point of these bouts was to let everyone prove to themselves how unwieldy and unpractical a scythe is, especially when faced against some solid sword skills. Though the harvesting like scythe is an awesome looking weapon and there are some decent techniques one could do with it, it is not a weapon we would widely recommended.
These matches are simple. One must strike down an opponent and in speculation be alive and standing as the victor. Sword Arts looks at a valid weapon hit as: a weapon action that would kill or incapacitate someone. In other words, it ends the fight. Valid sword hits with the blade of a weapon are: strikes, slashes, slices, and thrust. We do not count touches, nicks, grazes, taps, hits to just clothing, scratches or flat hits. In a sword fighting confrontation with battle ready weapons non valid hits that would not end a fight will only agitate an opponent already looking to kill you. Its in your best interest not to motivate him further. Respect for everyone and everything is a valuable point made or taught in almost all styles swordsmanship and weapons combat.
