Straight Bluegill protecting their nesting area with side-biting and aggressive behavior. They are very colorful right before the spawn. The females are less colorful and look fuller behind the pectoral fins. The males have vibrant coloring. They are close to spawning and have dug out small nests in the pond bottom. Those are the indentions in the pond bottom on the video. There are also Northern Largemouth Bass Fingerlings in this pond. We are going to grow the bass to a larger size and added the Bluegill for forage. The bass are pellet trained but we always add a forage fish to supplement their growth. We raise the Bluegill and sell them for pond stocking or fishing events. Bluegill often get overlooked when people start stocking a pond but they are a very important part and the basis for a healthy pond!
