✨ In the twilight of his days,
A melody, a final gaze,
Schubert penned with fading light,
A sonata, pure, and bright.
The keys beneath his fingers sighed,
As autumn leaves, they gently glide,
A symphony of life's last breath,
In B-Flat Major, a dance with death.
From heart to page, his soul did pour,
A testament, forevermore,
Of love, of loss, of beauty's pain,
In every note, a life's refrain.
The sonata's end, a silent bow,
To music's muse, he made his vow,
His legacy, in echoes, lies,
Beneath the starlit, silent skies.
So listen close, for in this sound,
Schubert's final whisper's found,
A contribution, pure and true,
His last, his best, his adieu.✨
Franz Schubert's Piano Sonata No. 21 in B-Flat Major, D. 960, is indeed considered to be his last major piano sonata. It was completed in September 1828, just a few months before Schubert's death in November of the same year. However, it's worth noting:
This sonata was not published until after Schubert's death.
While it's often referred to as his last work due to its significance and completion date, Schubert did write some smaller pieces and sketches afterwards.
Therefore, while it is the last of his completed piano sonatas and among his final works, there were some minor compositions that followed. But in terms of major, significant works, the Piano Sonata in B-Flat Major, D. 960, stands as one of his final contributions to music.
