CineStill 800T with the RemJet layer on. The RemJet layer is, essentially what it is, a layer that remains on the original Kodak film that this film is derived from. And if you process the images after you've shot it with a RemJet layer on and you don't do it using the correct chemicals or the correct removal process, which is very messy.
If you are shooting with the RemJet layer knowing that it's on the RemJet layer, make sure you take it to the right place to get it processed. It is a very time-consuming process but you'll get some amazing cinematic images if that's what you're going for.
The beauty of CineStill essentially is that they remove that RemJet layer from the film completely so then you can process this in C-41 chemical, really simple to use at home or you can take it somewhere for someone to do it for you and then you'll end up with those kind of cinematic images, except you'll end up with halations on any lighting in your frame. So when you remove the RemJet layer, that's essentially what happens.
I bought three or four rolls of this 120-mill CineStill film and was very excited to use it at nighttime. Headed down to central London to go and shoot a roll of this on my Bronica Zenza ETRS and came back and I was excited, dropped it off my developer and they got back to me and they were like yo, there is something seriously wrong with the images that have come out. We're trying to figure out what's wrong with it. And thankfully did a fabulous job.
Essentially what happened was CineStill had left the RemJet layer still on this film. And as a consequence, all the images came out with this tinge that you'll see in the images that will follow on. In hindsight, I am really, really happy with the images as they came out. These images really represent the feel of the times that we're currently living in with the coronavirus and lockdowns happening. It's kind of an apocalyptic world that we're currently living in.
I'm also thankful to CineStill and Analogue Wonderland for reimbursing everybody for the film that they bought and they did it very, very quickly. They established the issues with the film and they were fabulous. So highly recommend, if you've not shot with CineStill, they will look after you.
