I decided to take an extended road trip to snowboard around the country! My first stop is Salt Lake City, but I'm planning to make my way to Colorado, California, Wyoming, and Montana.
This video documents my 54 hour journey from Connecticut to Utah. I drove for 10-12 hours a day, using Walmart parking lots near the highway to get some sleep.
I hit some bad weather in Pennsylvania, and saw the aftermath of a storm that slammed the Midwest. I-80 was littered with cars off the side of the road. High winds (60 + mph) were tearing through Wyoming, crumpling semi-trucks and ripping cargo boxes off of SUVs. There were whiteout conditions in some spots, but fortunately it turned back to rain as I approached Utah.
Overall, I would say that the first leg of the trip was a success! Driving for extended trips like this is extremely cost effective - You can bring more gear, don't need to rent a car, and you ultimately have flexibility. If you are considering a shorter trip, definitely check flights as they could be cheaper and easier!
