Yes, I know; the title is an attention grabber because Bret Weinstein is an important YouTube intellectual influencer. I'm just taking one from the playbook. We all know how to elicit attention if we want to. Science is complex. No one in the scientific community pretends to have answers, all they can do is follow the evidence and do their best until their work comes up with better solutions, models, and theories. Pretending to have the answers should be a red flag. Sometimes we have to be patient and wait until we have a better understanding of things. We all want to understand what's going on and find solutions to problems. The best place to find information that will inform your opinions is by going to primary sources. Controversy gets viewers, and even our YouTube influencers know that. Good luck making sense of it all.
I had to jump back in and add something. Rebel wisdom had a talk with Yuri Deignin who echoes my thoughts precisely. I'm amazed at how Bret's fans seem to feel slighted if you suggest that they learn how to read a science paper. Follow the thousands of scientists and professionals doing the actual work and not only your favorite Youtuber. It's not hard to learn and it's more fun. You may find Bret a charming and eloquent communicator but trust me, there are thousands out there that will blow your mind if you give them a little bit of your attention. And the truly mindblowing scientists, academics, and professionals are rarely attention seekers. They love their work too much to care about the limelight or a fan base. Delve into their work and you will know what I mean. A bit less time with Bret and a little more time cracking the books and learning about science will yield wondrous results. Great information about this topic is abundant. Bret seems to want to ignore quite a bit of it. You don't have to.

Since everyone thinks their pet intellectual is the best thing ever, I'd like to reiterate that I'm only suggesting that there are other sources out there that you might want to spend some time with.
This quote resonates with me:
"Please stop saying you researched it.
You didn’t research anything and it is highly probable you don’t know how to do so.
Did you compile a literature review and write abstracts on each article? Or better yet, did you collect a random sample of sources and perform independent probability statistics on the reported results? No?
Did you at least take each article one by one and look into the source (that would be the author, publisher, and funder), then critique the writing for logical fallacies, cognitive distortions, and plain inaccuracies?
Did you ask yourself why this source might publish these particular results? Did you follow the trail of references and apply the same source of scrutiny to them?
No? Then you didn’t … research anything. You read or watched a video, most likely with little or no objectivity. You came across something in your algorithm manipulated feed, something that jived with your implicit biases and served your confirmation bias, and subconsciously applied your emotional filters and called it proof." — Linda Gamble Spadaro

We are all propagandists now
The U.S. is in an information war with itself. The public sphere, where Americans discuss public issues, is broken. There’s little discussion – and lots of fighting.
One reason why: Persuasion is difficult, slow and time-consuming – it doesn’t make good television or social media content – and so there aren’t a lot of good examples of it in our public discourse.
What’s worse, a new form of propaganda has emerged – and it’s enlisted us all as propagandists.
Fans of Bret will be mad at Sam Harris too, I guess. [ Ссылка ]
