Lazaropole is one of the highest (1350m) and one of the most beautiful villages in Macedonia. It's located in Bistra mountain. Residents of the village belonged to the famous Macedonian tribe, Mijacs.
The best time to visit Lazaropole is in the late spring.
The village is names after a local hero, Lazar. The legend says that he was the sole survivor of a Turkish attack oh his village. The rest of the townspeople where killed in a cave where they had sought refuge, while Lazar, the only survivor crawled outside and built a new town.
