Hi everyone! This is Greg from [ Ссылка ]
In this video, we’re going to be looking at another common expression. It’s gonna help you sound like a native English speaker and in this episode, we’re going to be looking at how native speakers pronounce “I don’t know” and “Do you know?”
So before I forget, make sure you go to [ Ссылка ] to get your free course on 5 secrets on how to speak English like a native speaker.
Ok, so let’s have a look at first, “I don’t know”.
When English people are speaking, generally they always make expressions shorter. We make contractions, we’re speaking quickly, so although when you’re at school you learn “I don’t know”, when native people speak it sounds more like, “I dunno”
So let’s have a look at two examples using “I dunno”
Example 1:
I don’t know where I left my keys
Example 2:
I don’t know what time the train leaves
Alright, let’s have a look at the question, “Do you know?”
Now, again when you’re learning at school you will learn “Do you know where my phone is?” but when we’re speaking English in a native setting, it sounds more like “D’ya know”
So let’s have a look at two examples:
Example 1:
Do you know what time the show begins?
Example 2:
Do you know where my sister is?
Great! Then now I want you the next time you speak English, whether it is with your friends or in class, I want you to try to use “I dunno” and also “D’ya know?”
I know it’s not English that you learn in a book, that you learn at school, but it’s so important to use expressions like this and pronunciation like we use, if you want to sound like a native speaker and if you want to improve your listening.
