RCMP Commissioner Brenda Lucki and deputy commissioner Brian Brennan speak with reporters in Ottawa about the police force's response to the recent incidents of violence and vandalism directed at Mi’kmaw lobster fishers in Nova Scotia. The incidents come amid an ongoing disagreement between the Sipekne'katik First Nation and non-Indigenous commercial fishers over the right of the Mi’kmaq to maintain a “moderate livelihood” fishery outside of the commercial season. Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller has said that Indigenous people have been "let down by the police" in the province.
