The Thermador Star® Burner looks cool, but there's a real functional reason for that shape.
If you measure around the perimeter of the star, you will find that it is 56% longer than a round burner with the same diameter. What this means to the end user is that you get superior flame spread, heat distribution, and a reduced cold spot in the center of the pan.
On top of that, the Star® Burner is mounted on Thermador's QuickClean Base®. That's a pedestal that raises the Star® Burner up off of the surface of the cooktop for easy cleaning around the perimeter.
Thermador's ExtraLow® system on select burners is an intermittent pulse. This means you can turn your burner all the way down and at its lowest setting, the flame will be on for 10 seconds, off for 50 seconds of every minute. This gives you the opportunity to melt chocolate without a double boiler, for instance, or to keep sauces and gravies warm for hours without cooking or scorching.
