It's spring. Nature is bursting into life. Birds are nesting, and I'm excited to show you what has been going on in my nest boxes. In this video I show you my multicamera mini wildlife tv studio and how I set it up.
For the past 2 years I have had blue tits nesting in my birdbox. This year I decided to install two new bird boxes and create my own mini wildlife TV studio, which I'm in now.
By pressing one button I will be able to show you all three cameras at once, live. This is something I've wanted to be able to do for a while and to be able to create my own live nature programme.
First up we have our original box from last year, which we've had blue tits nesting in the past two years. The first year 1 chick successfully fledged (16% success rate from those who hatched) and then last year we had 11 chicks fledge, which was an 100% success rate of those which hatched.
The hole diameter is 25mm for this box, which is good for a blue tit.
Normally to do a multicamera setup like this you would need expensive gear. However, the way I've managed to achieve this relatively cheaply is by using 3 different types of cameras: a wifi camera, a wired ethernet camera, and lastly a wired rca camera, and then I used free software called OBS, which stands for Open Broadcaster Software, to take all these different camera sources and pull them together into one display.
All my cameras are from Green feathers and they have some really great tutorials on how to connect your camera with software like OBS.

So, all this is very cool because it allows you to see what's going on live in all three boxes at the same time.
Why bluetits peck at nestbox?
