During WW2, hundreds of Soviet partisans lived in the 2500km of the Odessa catacombs, aiming to disrupt Nazi activity in the occupied city. Many of them did a very good job, but for my money the many successes are nowhere near as fascinating as the disastrous tale of the Kuznetsov-Kaloshin group.
Betrayal, murder, paranoia, madness, and 'a lack of sexual discipline' in the dark, humid, foreboding tunnels under Odessa.
