검찰, 박 前대통령 본격수사 착수…소환조사 일정 오늘 발표
Prosecutors in Korea have announced the date when they'll summon disgraced former leader Park Geun-hye for questioning over her involvement in the massive corruption case that ended her political career.
Our Hwang Hojun reports.
The second round of the prosecution's probe into the massive corruption scandal gripping Korea has begun.
The special team of prosecutors investigating the case... notified former President Park Geun-hye and her legal team... that she is being summoned to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office for questioning on Tuesday, March 21st, at 9:30 a.m.
She will be questioned on 13 charges,... including abuse of power and bribery,... leveled against her during the initial investigation by the prosecution and a separate investigation by an independent counsel.
She is accused of letting her confidante, Choi Soon-sil, a civilian with no official government position, meddle in state affairs,... and colluding with Choi to extort money from conglomerates.
Park has denied all 13 charges.
Park Geun-hye, the country's first female president, is also the first democratically elected leader to be impeached.
With her impeachment, Park was stripped of her immunity from criminal prosecution.
That means if Park refuses to appear for questioning, as she did while still in office, prosecutors can ― and likely will ― request a warrant for her arrest.
Park's legal team has said, however, that she will fully cooperate with the investigation.
If she does, Park will become the fourth former president to be questioned by prosecutors,... following Chun Doo-hwan, Roh Tae-woo and Roh Moo-hyun.
