A volcanic eruption in Indonesia on December 4 has spurred the evacuation of thousands of people.
Semeru, an active volcano on Indonesia’s island of Java, spewed a 9-mile-high cloud of ash upon eruption. It is Semeru’s second eruption in as many years.
In 2021, the volcano’s activity killed more than 50 people in addition to displacing thousands more. Thankfully, there have been no reports of casualties from this weekend’s eruption.
