#WhaleMemeMaker
When you open the Whale app for the first time, you can sign in with either your Facebook or Instagram account. To continue making your Whale account, type in what you’d like your username to be. Tap Next to move on. Whale will automatically import your profile picture from your Facebook or Instagram profile, but you can upload a new profile pic here by tapping the camera icon if you like. Tap Next to move on. Now, pick 3 or more meme groups to join. Whale makes it easy for you to share and discover new memes by joining themed groups. Tap Join on any 3 groups you’re interested in, then tap Let’s Go.
Now you’ll see your Whale homepage. Here you can browse new and popular memes that have been posted to the groups you’ve joined. Scroll down to see more memes in a specific group. Swipe sideways to switch between groups. You can also use the menu at the top to select a specific group to view. If you tap Hot 10 in the top left corner, you can check out the current 10 most popular memes on the Whale app.
In the menu at the bottom, you can tap the house icon to go to your Whale homepage, the groups icon to check out groups you’ve joined as well as suggested groups Whale thinks you’d like, the bell icon to view your notifications, and the profile icon to see your own Whale profile along with any memes you’ve created.
To make your first meme on Whale, tap the plus sign in the bottom menu. As the base of your meme, you can use a GIF, a Whale template, or an image from your device’s camera roll. Scroll sideways in any of these categories to view more options, or tap the search icon to find something specific in one of them. Tap an image to select it as the beginning point for your meme.
Once you’ve selected the base image, you’ll now see Whale’s meme creation toolbar. The first tool is Text. Use this to add a textbox to your meme image. When you tap Text, a text window will appear. Type in what you want the text to say, then tap Done. After that, you can change the font, text size, colour, gradient, alignment, outline, and highlight. You can then use your finger to move the text to wherever you want it to appear on your image. Use two fingers to pinch or zoom to adjust the text size or to rotate your text. To go back to the main toolbar, tap the grey area around your image. The next tool is called Media. With this tool you can layer additional images on top of your meme. Just like when you picked the base image for your meme, you can select a GIF, template, or a picture from your camera roll. You can then add filters, opacity, cut to use just a piece of the image, erase part of the image, or crop it. Just like with the text tool, you can use two fingers to adjust the size and rotation of the image. With the Faces tool you can insert faces from pictures in your camera roll. Tap Photo, then select an image from your camera roll. Whale will automatically detect faces in the image and cut them out. You can then select a face from the toolbar at the bottom and use it like a sticker on your meme. Tap a face to add it to your meme, then drag it where you’d like it to appear and adjust the size and rotation. You can also use the editing tools at the bottom if you like. You can also add Emojis to your meme. If you add multiple images and want to layer them on top of each other, you can adjust the layers of your image by tapping the layer icon at the top. Simply drag the images into the layered order you want them to appear in. The layers at the top of the list will appear on top of the image, and the lower down ones will be layered underneath. This makes it super easy to adjust the layering of your image elements. The next tool is called Freeform. This is basically a drawing tool. You can use it to draw lines or pictures on your meme. You can use a simple coloured line, or select an emoji to draw lines with. If you tap Size you can adjust the thickness of your lines, and use the erase tool to erase any mistakes. The last tool is called Magic. This tool allows you to stylize your meme with a single button. Select a style you like to test it out. If you like it, tap Apply to save your changes.
When you’re all done editing your meme on Whale, tap Share in the top right corner. Type in a caption for your meme, select what group you’d like to share it to. When you’re done, tap Post Meme to share it. A copy of the meme will be saved to your device automatically. You can check out your completed meme on your Whale profile.
